Raising City Chickens Class
Saturday, August 14, 2010
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Raising chickens is the newest and most popular way to get local food while raising fun & unique pets. If you’re thinking of starting your own coop or just want to learn more about backyard chickens, this class is for you!
20 participant maximum. All ages welcome.
Fee: $20
Our classes are unique in the Atlanta-area because we teach practical knowledge that will help you get your coop started right. In our outdoors classroom, you’ll have hands-on lessons on many topics directly pertinent to raising a backyard flock. The whole time, you’ll be surrounded by chickens that you can pick up (and pet if you wish). Finally, we’ll visit 3-5 local backyard coops so you can see a wide variety of designs and methods for raising your fowl. Many of the coops on our tours are owned by our former Raising City Chickens students.
Topics covered will include:
- Basic chicken anatomy
- Design & home manufacture of coops, brooders, waterers, feeders, etc.
- Everyday care of chickens
- Raising chicks
- Complications such as predators & other pests, brooding and molting
- Use of chicken products like eggs, compost, and meat
- For more details…
All classes are taught by Sure Foot’s founder Jonah McDonald.
