Day Hikes
Sure Foot day hikes are like experiencing a slice out of a backpacking trip. Though we carry day packs, we explore remote, awe-inspiring locations and use our legs to propel us throughout the day. We promote a mindset of wilderness awareness and help participants set aside many of the trappings of civilization (Facebook, cell phones, time, watches, homework, etc.)
Skills: Sure Foot day hikes teach wilderness skills such as fire building, orienteering, map reading, and botany. You can expect to see a Sure Foot guide respond to “Are we almost there?” with a lesson on telling time by the sun and on how to estimate hiking speed.
Food: Sometimes participants bring sack lunches on day hikes, and sometimes a Sure Foot guide will teach the group how to cook a hot lunch (see Backpacking for possible meals). Food always tastes so much better in the woods!
Destinations: Depending on the distance you want to travel, we have metro-Atlanta day hikes, central Georgia hikes, and north Georgia mountain day hikes. Some of our favorite locations include Arabia Mountain, Sweetwater Creek, Red Top Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain, Chattahoochee River, Pine Mountain, Providence Canyon, Springer Mountain, Raven Cliff Falls, Dicks Creek Falls, Blood Mountain, and Three Forks.
Guides: As on all Sure Foot trips, at least one guide on each trip is trained as a Wilderness First Reponder, including Wilderness First Aid and Professional CPR certifications.
